Xinhua News Agency, Bremen, Germany, October 1 (reported by Ren Ke Zhang Yirong) The 69th International Astronautical Congress opened in Bremen Exhibition Center in Germany on October 1. More than 6300 astronauts, representatives of space agencies and enterprises, experts and scholars, and young students from all over the world attended the event.

The four Baden Wuerttemberg class vessels the Navy ordered back in 2007 will come as replacement to the ageing Bremen class frigates.

On 3 February 1994, the small satellite of the University of Bremen, BREMSAT, was carried into orbit by the United States Space Shuttle Discovery.

Software deficiencies were particularly important as the Baden Wuerttemberg class vessels will be operated by a crew of some 120 sailors just half of the manpower on older Bremen class frigates.

This congress will last for 5 days. It is co hosted by the International Astronautical Federation, the International Academy of Astronautics, the Applied Science and Technology and Microgravity Research Center in University of Bremen, and International Institute of Space Law, etc.

BREMEN An estimated 1.2 billion people worldwide, including 550 million in Africa and 400 million in India, have no access to electricity. Most live in rural areas where the population is sparse and incomes are low, making it uneconomical to connect homes and businesses to a grid.
