Indicators also show that this situation in general is worst among women, as well as among Afro descendent men and women.

There is a need to spread awareness of specific laws on the protection of Afro descendent and indigenous women with respect to their languages and to specific protective measures concerning the recognition of their land and or territorial rights.

If the victim is under 14 years of age or the spouse, companion, descendent or adopted child of the person or of his or her spouse or companion, or is under his or her care, the penalty is at least 12 years (article 180 PC).

34. The provisions of the Penal Code dealing with women include one indicating that anyone who knowingly murders a progenitor or descendent, whether natural or adoptive, or a spouse or companion, is subjected to a custodial sentence of a minimum of 15 years (art. 107 PC).

The penalty is for a minimum of five and a maximum of 12 years when the victim is the person apos s spouse, concubine, descendent or adoptive child or that of his or her spouse or companion, or is under his or her care (article 181 PC).
