I'm getting out of here. I'm rusting away.

Rotterdam based photographer Brian Romeijn, 40, snapped these eerie images, which show the abandoned train's rusting exterior, torn seats, dust covered windows and floors and compact engineer's room.

They accompany me wherever I go in my life, and I fill them with all sorts of things, records of my lived experience so watercolor paintings, drawings of what I see, dead flowers, dead insects, pasted ticket stubs, rusting coins, business cards, writings.

To get to Moldova from Odessa (now in Ukraine) one must drive through the self proclaimed republic of Transdniestria (population 700,000), a sliver of land on the north shore of the Dniester river. A clump of peeling buildings, rusting wire, and a filthy lavatory mark the start of Transdniestrian sovereignty.

Yet a third wall remains, less visible than the others but just as harmful, if not more so. This wall has been with us always, separating rusting spirits who live in nostalgia, fear the future, and believe that only the past was better, from youthful, creative, and entrepreneurial spirits who fearlessly embrace the future and believe that the best is always yet to come.

Second, we could opt to expose our information to a form of digital rusting, so that it slowly erodes (and we would need to take proactive steps should we ever wish to recover some of it). Third, we could separate past information, so that it takes a special effort or additional time to retrieve it, thereby reducing the chances that we accidentally stumble upon it.
