(i) Support for the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child

The Committee welcomes the establishment of the Parliamentary Ombudsmen (1994), the Ombudsman for Equal Opportunities (1999) and the Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child (2000).

Syria has sent letters to the Commissioner of the Investigation Commission, informing him of its readiness to cooperate.

Encourages the independent expert to continue to cooperate, in accordance with his mandate, with the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, special rapporteurs, independent experts and members of the expert working groups of the Commission and the Sub Commission related to economic, social and cultural rights and the right to development, in his work towards the elaboration of the draft general guidelines

The expert committee would review the plans in the light of the expert knowledge of its members.

Likewise, it was beneficial that UNHCR was participating in the work of the Committee on the Rights of the Child.

Members of the Commission had also conducted informal exchanges of views on topics of mutual interest with members of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Law Association.

Their findings would be summarized in the report of the expert committee to the Commission.

21. The High Commissioner for Human Rights attached great importance to the work of the Committee on the Rights of the Child.
