Advisory Body of Experts on the Law of the Sea

Mr. Taka Hiraishi, member of the Consultative Group of Experts on National Communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (CGE) and of the EGTT, presented an overview of the work of CGE relevant to vulnerability and adaptation.

In this regard, an advisory group of experts was established to provide advisory support to the task force.

The SBI encouraged the CGE to continue its coordination efforts with the NCSP and other expert groups under the Convention and requested the secretariat to support the efforts of the CGE.

For example, the Chair and the rapporteur of the CGE briefed the members of the Expert Group on Technology Transfer (EGTT), at its meeting in December 2004 in Buenos Aires, about the activities of the CGE.

The Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) welcomed the report of the Expert Group on Technology Transfer (EGTT) for 2005 (FCCC SBSTA 2005 INF.10) and endorsed the proposed work programme of the EGTT for 2006 as contained in the annex to that document.

The Committee notes from that report that the independent audit advisory committee would serve in an expert advisory capacity to the General Assembly.

The following are the recommendations of the CGE relating to cooperation with other expert groups under the Convention

Insofar as independent experts of the advisory services programme were viewed to be faced with very similar situations to those of the special procedures and that at least two of the former were charged explicitly with fact finding tasks, these experts also participated in the meeting.
