Malaria is a scourge, particularly for inhabitants of poor tropical countries. Forty one percent of the world's population live in areas where malaria is transmitted, with 350 500 million cases each year.

The National Malaria Programme (PNM) is governed by the principles of the Global Strategy for Malaria Control, which aims first at ensuring access to timely diagnosis and treatment followed by the implementation of selective control measures, including antivectors.
