This enhanced funding supports improvements in access to primary care, mental health and family healing services, and community outreach health promotion activities in Aboriginal communities throughout Ontario.

(i) To establish, strengthen or facilitate, where possible, support services to respond to the needs of actual and potential victims by, inter alia, providing for them the appropriate protection, safe shelter, counselling, legal aid, health care services, including in the areas of sexual and reproductive health, psychological health and other relevant areas, rehabilitation and reintegration into society

Under the State Health Insurance Law, 5754 1994 ( State Health Insurance Law ), every resident is entitled to comprehensive health care services.

For example, the Agreement for the Complementarity of Services between the health and social services network and the education network deals with all aspects of intervention with respect to the development of young people, e.g., fostering health and well being, education, prevention, adjustment and rehabilitation services.

Within the regular health system, these activities are aimed at strengthening the capacities for providing health services to the young in many areas (reproductive health, mental health, nutrition, etc.).

In mountainous and island areas, four (4) mobile units are already in operation and the establishment of 17 more mobile mental health units has been planned, for the provision of required and necessary services during on the spot visits.

In 2001, Emergency Health and Emergency Social Services were combined under one Director of Emergency Health and Social Services with sole signing authority for emergency disasters.

We revised the mental health component of the primary health care services by adding psycho social care and psycho social counselors to the system.

Psychosocial support and mental health services to women survivors of violence and harmful traditional practices are very limited.

From 2000 2004, a new service delivery plan for mental health was implemented, and provided the opportunity to increase the range of mental health programs, province wide.
