A global monitoring programme on POPspersistent organic pollutants (GMP) could be established to link together existing national, regional and global activities on monitoring and provide recommendations for the elements to be contained within such a global programme.

Global assessments The global report would be produced by a drafting team of experts under the purview of the GCG.

The GEF is also a member of the Facilitation Committee of the GM.

We support the idea of creating, as a matter of urgency, regional mechanisms for monitoring, early warning and assessment to deal with hydrometeorological and geological dangers at the global level.

In its new role as financial mechanism for the UNCCD, the GEF will collaborate with the GM.
