Military Support, Planning and Liaison Office

The main military entity responsible for coordinating MICA is the civil military coordination and liaison function at force headquarters.

In addition, the Ituri Brigade Military Police Commander served as the military liaison officer with the team.

Such coordination could be achieved by establishing a focal point in the Military Adviser's office for UNMO policy issues, including security, administration, liaison and training.

As described above, the military component would actively participate in and support the following bodies established by the Ceasefire Agreement to assist in its implementation the Ceasefire Joint Military Committee, the Area Joint Military Committees and the joint military teams.

Moreover, the presence of military liaison officers will continue to be necessary, to facilitate necessary communication between the two parties, especially so long as a formal agreement on the border is not reached.

We understand that in the light of the security challenges that face our globalizing world a small detachment of military officers may also be required to guarantee the security of the military liaison officers, as Timor Leste cannot be expected at the current stage of our development to guarantee the security of international civilian or military personnel.
