To perform its additional tasks, the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator would be strengthened by the deployment of a senior coordination adviser, who would assist the head of the office in his resident and humanitarian coordination functions.

It was agreed that ACC members would designate focal points responsible for coordinating the work carried out in the field of democratization within their respective organizations, and I am pleased to report that focal points have now been appointed in most ACC bodies.

ICC Members Institutions which have been accredited by the ICC, serve for a two year period and are eligible for re election.

The resident coordinator in Liberia serves as deputy to the representative, in addition to existing functions, including humanitarian coordination.

The Committee commends the State party for its delegation, which was headed by the Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly and Chairman of the National Coordination Committee, and included members of the National Coordination Committee.

We believe that the appointment of this coordinator should in no way prejudice the claims of the Group from which he or she comes to other coordinator posts to deal with other issues arising in the Conference.

126. The new Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, headed by the Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, focuses on three core functions policy development and coordination humanitarian advocacy and coordination of humanitarian action.

Highlighting UNDP efforts to strengthen the resident coordinator system, he stressed the vital move to free resident coordinators' hands by appointing country directors in 40 pilot countries.

The Executive Committee also appoints a Director, who is responsible for planning, monitoring, programme co ordination, research, and training.
