B. Experimental satellites

In February 1994 two way measurements began on a regular basis the so called INTELSAT field trials between the above mentioned European laboratories and between these laboratories and two laboratories in the United States.

Two spacecraft the Optical Inter Orbit Communications Engineering Test Satellite and the geostationary satellite of the African Real Time Environmental Monitoring using Imaging Satellites (ARTEMIS) system would be involved in the experiment.

The Virtual Laboratory for Satellite Training and Data Utilization was established in May 2001 jointly by WMO and the Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites as a means of promoting the utilization of satellite data and products by WMO members.

Landsat and SPOT images and aerial photography are used.

ERS 1 ERS 2 remote sensing satellites (GOME (ozone) and radar altimetry experiment contribution)

Scientific experimental satellite

Uses satellite images from NOAA, Landsat and SPOT satellites in order to update medium scale maps, monitor the oceanic environment and assess forest conditions.

The STELLA laser reflecting satellite, launched in late September 1993 with SPOT 3, and the DORIS positioning system, carried on SPOT 2, 3, 4, 5A and 5B and on the ESA apos s ENVISAT mission, along with the participation by CNES in the Danish OERSTED programme to study the Earth apos s magnetic field, are expanding research in Earth sciences.

The objectives of COMETS are to develop and experimentally demonstrate new technologies of advanced satellite mobile communication, interorbit communication and advanced satellite broadcasting.

This course of action contains all the tasks performed by CONAE with regard to ground stations for follow up, telemetry and control of Earth links with satellites or spacecraft, laboratories for integration, tests and simulations and testing tables for satellite or spacecraft subsystems.

The on orbit demonstrations will be conducted by using the ARTEMIS, a geostationary satellite of ESA.

Here is, in fact, what you get if you, for example, look at the distribution of amino acids on a comet or in interstellar space or, in fact, in a laboratory, where you made very sure that in your primordial soup that there is not living stuff in there.

The satellite systems that had been used included ERS 1 and ERS 2, the Japanese Earth Resources Satellite (JERS 1), LANDSAT, the shuttle imaging radar (SIR C) and the Experimental Earth Observation System (SPOT).

Engineering Test Satellite VII (ETS VII)

The station is now capable of receiving data from LANDSAT TM, SPOT, MOS, JERS, ERS and IRS satellites and will be upgraded for Radarsat and ADEOS data in the near future.

It would carry an ozone layer monitoring experiment, data transfer experiment, experimental Earth imaging system and some other equipment, including an educational experiment.

The on orbit demonstrations will be conducted using the ARTEMIS geostationary satellite of ESA.

The Laboratory

At present, the Thailand Remote Sensing Centre (TRSC) has a large archive of satellite data such as LANDSAT MSS, TM, SPOT, MOS, ERS 1, JERS 1 and NOAA AVHRR.

It's October of 1957, and Sputnik has just launched, and we're in Laurel Maryland, at the applied physics lab associated with Johns Hopkins University.

ADEOS will continue the Earth observation tests of MOS l 1b and JERS 1.

It is also constructing for CNES the platform for the Stentor experimental satellite and the Vegetation payload for SPOT 4.

Engineering experiments on the scientific satellite systems

Name of object launched Engineering Test Satellite VI (ETS VI) (Kiku 6)

Furnished with up to date test facilities and equipment comparable to those of major laboratories throughout the world, it conducts research and development in space technology and engineering tests of satellites and launch vehicles.

Specialized in forestry, agriculture and geology, produces thematic geological and agricultural maps by using Landsat and SPOT images.

A satellite for very long baseline interferometry from space, called HALCA (Highly Advanced Laboratory for Communications and Astronomy), was launched by ISAS in February 1997.

The Earth Observation Centre receives and processes remote sensing data by means of satellites. It now receives and processes data from the Marine Observation Satellites 1 and 1b (MOS 1 1b) of Japan, the United States Land Remote Sensing Satellite (LANDSAT), the satellite système probatoire d apos observation de la terre (SPOT) (the French remote sensing satellite), the European Remote Sensing Satellite 1 (ERS 1) and the Japanese Earth Resource Satellite (JERS 1).

Remote sensing laboratories

The data provided by the programme would not be limited to ERS 1 and ERS 2 data but, on the basis of project requirements, could originate from other satellites (for example, the Land Remote Sensing Satellite (LANDSAT) and the Satellite Système Probatoire d Observation de la Terre (SPOT)) or from a combination of satellites in order to take advantage of the complementary nature of satellite obtained data.

The objectives of COMETS are to develop and experimentally demonstrate new technologies of advanced satellite mobile communication, interorbit communication and advanced satellite broadcasting.

General function of space object The purpose of Engineering Test Satellite VI is to establish bus technology for large scale geostationary three axis stabilized satellites necessary for development of future operational satellites as well as to develop advanced satellite communications technologies such as fixed satellite communications, mobile satellite communications and intersatellite communications.
