Although many women work in the latter areas, they are not in supervisory or middle management positions, which is why the statistics show lower participation by women in in house training.

In addition to these modular courses the vocational system also offers longer training programmes which give participants formal qualifications which may alone or in combination with other types of training lead to a skilled level.

Two African countries are involved in the TRAINMAR programme and 30 African countries have participated in training activities with regard to insurance.

The participants in the train the trainer workshop are currently actively involved in training for specific target groups.

Twenty one participants attended the course.

Training for the Strengthening of Civil Society and Social Participation

As in the case of the training course in Fiji, participation in the forthcoming training courses would be open to the technical staff of the developing States of the specific region.

The selection of participants was completed by the end of February 1997, approximately two months before the start of the course.

These training sessions have been well received by all participants.

Studies carried out by the Planning Office of the SENA Evaluation and Statistics Division describe the population taking the various courses offered by SENA and show that, while 53.3 per cent of persons taking short courses are women, women account for only 38.4 per cent of the enrolment for long courses.

In 2005 2006, training the trainers courses will be organized in some of the 12 participating countries.

Agency staff participated in the development of the new Palestinian curriculum, in the preparation of a new vocational training strategy and in updating the curricula of some community college vocational training courses.

These figures show that women apos s participation in training activities tends to be more stable than men apos s. Although there was a percentage increase in the female drop out rate between 1990 and 1995, this was offset by an increase in training courses and in the number of women taking part in them.

All participants and supervisors referred to the direct relevance which the course has had to the work being done in capitals, and supervisors indicated that they would welcome the possibility of selecting other colleagues for future courses.

In addition, some 3,400 police personnel have undergone various in service training programmes and development courses, including computer training.

The aim of the courses is, inter alia, to enable the participants to take advantage of offers of supplementary and further training at basic level.

All the units will undergo training to increase their capacity for self evaluation.

In 1995, 38,010 foreigners enrolled in further vocational training measures.

The men and women who work on this programme are licensed teachers who have also attended training courses.

In the vocational training area, the above situation demands that INAFORP make a clear, decisive commitment to improving women apos s placement in a variety of training opportunities, backed up by self management programmes and the training of women for middle management positions in businesses.
