(a) Authentication of warheads and components to establish that an item declared to be a nuclear warhead or a component from a nuclear warhead is consistent with those declarations

Half of that is coming from dismantled warheads from Russia, soon to be joined by our dismantled warheads.

(b) Dismantlement of warheads and their components

The destruction of some old nuclear warheads has been overshadowed by the equipping of remaining warheads with more precision in targeting.

Materials such as deuterium or beryllium used in some nuclear warheads in association with fissile material may be detectable by using the photo neutron technique.

Since there were no distinctive physical differences between chemical and biological warheads and inspectors were still unaware of any biological weaponization, the true nature of those warhead fragments was not investigated further.

Most types of submunitions are designed to disperse submunitions over a wide area (some models disperse submunitions over a square kilometre).

This list, as reflected in both matrices, includes the following munitions Cannon shells ( 14.5 mm), pyrotechnics and propellants, air launched submunitions (single fuze, multi fuze), ground launched submunitions (single fuze, multi fuze), hand and projected rifle grenades, mortar rounds, artillery projectiles and aircraft unitary bombs.

In particular, multi fuze submunitions seem to pose a much lower humanitarian risk than submunitions with single fuze or mortar rounds.

In 1998, UNSCOM decided to re examine through sampling and analysis unilaterally destroyed special warheads for Al Hussein missiles.
