Besides, 8807 apprentices are trained under the Apprenticeship Training Programme in the country.

One was designed to provide vocational training for young people, selected on the basis of gender equality, and place them in apprenticeships.

There were also retraining programmes in vocational training centres in which they were able to learn about new technologies.

During the reporting period, a total of 151 students graduated from the pre service programme and 177 from the in service programme.

A young person may, without having completed secondary school, follow vocational training courses at the so called Vocational Education Centres (CEO).

The various modes are apprenticeship, skills training and supplementary training.

The four year pre service programme, which granted degrees in classroom teaching or in the specialized topics of Arabic, mathematics, science and vocational education, was offered to 737 secondary school graduates, including 509 women, at the Amman, Ramallah Men apos s and Ramallah Women apos s training centres.

This training programme is technical vocational training which includes general subjects and which is organized as alternating periods of theoretical training and practical training in enterprises

Teacher training colleges for primary school teachers as well as those training teachers for secondary, vocational and adult education stipulate that by the end of their training, aspiring teachers should have developed an understanding of the cultural, ethnic, social and emotional differences between students.

They aim at providing any type of vocational training, initial or additional, so as to facilitate young people's vocational integration in society, and to ensure their adjustment to the changing needs of production procedures.

In addition a number of technical colleges and vocational training institutes provide technical and vocational education at the secondary level.
