The secondary schools intermediate and upper secondary schools accept pupils as of grades 5 and 6 (orientation level) and teach them up to grade 10 in intermediate secondary schools and up to grade 13 in upper secondary schools.

Because of the high dropout and repeat rates, the Ministry of Education is focusing its efforts on ensuring that students complete first grade (nearly one third of students drop out in first grade).

At the elementary (I VIII) level the same subjects are offered to both male and female students.
