It has made important confirmation of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropy first measured by the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE), launched in 1989, and it has begun to make a finer scale map of the CMB than is possible with the smaller antennas of COBE.

These predictions are in excellent agreement with observations by the WMAP satellite of the cosmic microwave background, which is an imprint of the very early universe.

Scientists discovered this large scale flow by comparing the motion of the local group with respect to clusters versus the motion with respect to the cosmic microwave background, which is assumed to be a quot stationary quot reference.

It was big enough to be transparent to light, and that's what we see in the cosmic microwave background that George Smoot described as looking at the face of God.

The detection of faint cosmic objects against the atmospheric background obviously presents a problem.

The motion of the local group of galaxies derived with respect to these galaxy clusters was significantly different from the one derived with respect to the cosmic microwave background.

We've shown that it can fit all of the data that we have about the formation of galaxies, the fluctuations in the microwave background.

We use them to communicate, cook, and diagnose and cure disease. The unified theory of electromagnetism has led to profound advances across all physical science, from atomic physics (where lasers and masers are essential tools) to cosmology (where the microwave background radiation is our window on the Big Bang).

And what we try to do in astronomy and cosmology is to go back before Darwin's simple beginning, to set our Earth in a cosmic context.

So if these ideas are correct, this is what the ultra microscopic landscape of the universe looks like.

This is the WMAP microwave background that we see.

This is the noise that Penzias and Wilson heard the oldest sound that you're ever going to hear, the cosmic microwave background radiation left over from the Big Bang.

The universe is tiny it's smaller than an atom.

In order to study physical processes in the Universe, measurements were performed to determine cosmic ray spectra in various wavelengths and bandwidths.

But what they're seeing, way out there in the far reaches of the microwave background, is this kind of odd undulation.

And those fluctuations were stretched to astronomical sizes, and those fluctuations eventually are the things we see in the cosmic microwave background.

So this is what we started with 15 years ago, with the Cosmic Background Explorer made the map on the upper right, which basically showed us that there were large scale fluctuations, and actually fluctuations on several scales. You can kind of see that.

7 March three satellites (Cosmos 2307 to Cosmos 2309) and

24 July three satellites (Cosmos 2316 to Cosmos 2318).

In December 2004, GLONASS gained three more satellites Cosmos 2411, Cosmos 2412 and Cosmos 2413.

And then suddenly, bang! A universe appears, an entire universe.
