Findings from evaluations are intended to facilitate decision making by the Committee for Programme and Coordination on changes in procedures used in implementing ongoing programmes and the redefinition of the content of programmes and subprogrammes.

Programme evaluation is important because it can lead to further development and refinement of programmes as well as serve as a base on which to promote similar programmes elsewhere.

220. Guidelines on programme monitoring and evaluation were issued by the Office of Internal Oversight Services in November 1997, setting out the managerial elements of programme monitoring and evaluation that should be in place in each department and office.

Close linkages will be established with programme formulation, monitoring and evaluation of country level programmes, with the indicators being included in such programmes.

In that phase, the programme will identify and evaluate actions being undertaken to prevent armed violence.
