UNEP is working on post disaster assessments of environmental impacts, with a view to incorporating environmental concerns into the design of processes of recovery and restoration.

In 1998 The National Development Planning Agencies established a gender mainstreaming Working Group on Policy and Program Planning which focuses on five development sectors namely employment, education, justice, agriculture, cooperatives SMEs In 2000 the Working Group expanded its mandate to incorporate four additional sectors namely health, family planning, social welfare and environment.

The review will be completed by the end of 2006 for possible implementation during the 2007 planning process.

This will be part of the mainstreaming of the environment into national development planning and will provide input into poverty reduction strategies, thus building on existing work by UNEP on poverty and the environment.

Some action plans, such as those adopted by FAO and UNDP, are expressly linked to overall corporate planning processes, workplans and budgets.

The core operations processes are planning, resource allocation, implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation.

Priority issues for children are becoming more and more integrated into mainstream national planning processes.

The Agency is in the process of developing a sex disaggregated database, which will vastly enhance its ability to plan, monitor and evaluate its activities as part of the overall gender mainstreaming strategy.

In that regard, the integrated mission planning process handbook and the training modules for headquarters staff must be formalized.

The need for the formalization of succession plans has been identified by the Agency.

Many procedures are in place for the planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation of the work of the Organization.

Succession planning is a serious problem, and managers will have to begin the recruitment process well in advance of a planned retirement.

Contingency planning is a demanding exercise.

Planning is under way to secure permanent facilities.

1.22 As an outcome of the conference, UNRWA will ensure that greater emphasis is placed on a holistic, inter disciplinary approach in both the planning and implementation of the Agency's interventions.

While that process needs to be sequenced, the planning for recovery should start as relief work begins, and the planning for long term development should parallel reconstruction activities.

The Statutes shall specify the monitoring body's working methods and operating procedures.

It is envisaged that United Nations Volunteers will be mobilized in such specialized areas as civil engineering, economic planning, small business development, physical planning and agricultural extension. Regional expertise will be mobilized through technical cooperation among developing countries programmes and exchanges.

(d) The strengthened JSP process, which provides an assessment and forward looking strategic action plan for each National Committee in terms of income generation, leadership, advocacy, management of financial contributions and communications.

UNHCR agreed with the Board's recommendation to include in its Manual provisions linking the United Nations medium term plan and strategic framework to its internal planning process.

Through extensive consultation and collaboration, stakeholders are increasingly involved in the planning of multi stakeholder dialogues and, through the processes of joint planning, have established strong cooperative relationships within the group.

OIOS observed that the integrated mission planning processes and types of integrated mission task forces, such as working groups aimed at bringing partners outside the Department of Peacekeeping Operations into the planning of missions, so far have not incorporated the planning of military components' support for humanitarian activities.

This planning exercise, though still in its very early stage, helps combine planning and processing which were not adequately integrated before.
