Islamic Jihad is only one such organization.

290. On 10 November, the Islamic Jihad movement threatened to carry out attacks unless Israel released Palestinian security prisoners, including Islamic Jihad activist Ataef Alian, who had been on hunger strike for three weeks at the Neveh Tirza prison.

For a grand bargain with the US, Iran needs to end its support for militant organizations like Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad which undermine efforts at reaching a two state solution for Israel and Palestine. Even without such a bargain, however, Iran will have to do certain things if it wants to be seen as a constructive regional player.

On this occasion, allow me to extend the solidarity of the members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference to the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle for the establishment of an independent State, with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital, and for the return of displaced Palestinians to their homes and properties.

Resolutions on the cause of Palestine, Al Quds Al Sharif, the Arab Israeli conflict and the Islamic boycott of Israel

I have the honour, on behalf of the members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, to transmit to you the memorandum on recent developments in the Palestinian occupied territory submitted by the Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations Office in Geneva at the meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference held in Geneva on 7 July 1997.

At the 44th meeting, on 12 April 2005, the representative of Pakistan (on behalf of the Organization of the Islamic Conference) introduced draft resolution E CN.4 2005 L.12, sponsored by Pakistan (on behalf of the Organization of the Islamic Conference).

Palestine, represented by the PLO as the representative of the Palestinian people, was also an observer.

The event brought together major Arab, Islamic and Western financial institutions, international organizations, Palestinian business leaders and representatives of the Palestinian Authority to explore options for future private sector growth in the occupied Palestinian territory.

At that session, the Assembly invited the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the representative of the Palestinian people, to participate in its deliberations on the question of Palestine in plenary meetings (resolution 3210 (XXIX)).

Its chief addressees were Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

The Committee urged the Islamic States to extend further support to the Palestinian national institutions and the Palestinian people with a view to enabling it to protect the Islamic and Christian sanctities, preserve the city of Al Quds Al Sharif and its civilizational, historical and religious heritage, and to support its steadfastness and its resistance to the Israeli occupation and settlement schemes.

The passing in November 2004 of the Palestinian Authority President and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Yasser Arafat, represented a real challenge to the Palestinian people and institutions.

The arrest of members of that group revealed that Al Qaida had already established a presence in Mauritania.

The Permanent Observer of Palestine read out a message from Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and President of the Palestinian Authority.

Statements in connection with the draft resolution were made by the representatives of India and Pakistan (on behalf of the Organization of the Islamic Conference).

Calls for strengthened cooperation and coordination with international and regional organizations concerning the cause of al Quds al Sharif and Palestine, and requests the General Secretariat to organize joint activities with these organizations to support the Palestinian's rights.

Pakistan is an Islamic Republic.

The Conference constituted an Islamic Ministerial Committee headed by the Kingdom of Morocco in its capacity as Chair of Al Quds Committee, and membership of Malaysia, Chair of the 10th Islamic Summit Senegal, Chair of the next Islamic Summit Republic of Turkey, Chair of the 31st ICFM Republic of Yemen, Chair of the 32nd ICFM the State of Palestine and the General Secretariat of the OIC.

a) Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO)

Decides to proclaim October 1st (the Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Muhammad Al Durrah in Palestine) as the day of Islamic Solidarity with women and children victims of wars and occupation in the Islamic world.

Statements by the President of the Palestinian Authority, the Chairmen of the Movement of Non Aligned Countries, Organization of the Islamic Conference and Organization of African Unity, the Secretary General of the League of Arab States and the North American Coordinating Committee of Non Governmental Organizations on the Question of Palestine were also read out in the meeting by their representatives.

A statement was made by the Head of the Political Department of the Palestine Liberation Organization.

Representatives of the League of Arab States and the Organization of the Islamic Conference also made statements, as did the Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.

Calls for the effective implementation of the OIC IDB CILSS Programme for the Sahel.
