The Fund was established for the purpose of receiving such monies as may be appropriated annually from the Consolidated Fund, together with other monies received from external donors.

The successful partnership between the United Nations Fund for International Partnerships (UNFIP) and the United Nations Foundation (UNF) entered its eighth year in March 2005.

Total 2004 expenditures were 97 per cent of total funds available for the Annual Programme Fund.

WWSF received UNFPA and DPI consultative status in 1999.

In December 1997, amendments were made to the 1996 mutual funds act to enhance regulation of mutual funds.

The GEF annual report to the COP on its activities as the operating entity of the financial mechanism, the annual reports of the GEF and other relevant GEF policy and information documents

Owing to better planning and close monitoring, the percentage of unliquidated obligations compared to total programmed activities has remained relatively stable, despite a considerable increase in activities.

At the end of the year in 2004, unliquidated obligations were 91.5 million or 8.7 per cent of total programmed activity, compared to 85.3 million or 9.0 per cent in 2003, and 78.5 million or 8.6 per cent in 2002.
