In addition to rapidly rising demand, steel prices were pushed higher by rising prices of all major raw materials used in steel production (scrap, coke, coal and iron ore).

A great' year is a year of premium prices (higher than the US price) for steel in the world steel export market.

In the recent past, the prices of these products have increased faster than steel prices.

There is no single recognized reference price for steel, and in the short term prices may differ significantly from one regional market to another.

A good' year is a period when world steel export prices, FOB the foreign port, are selling at about 80 per cent of the US price.
