Eleventh is the pressing need for more coherence and synergies.

52. Resident coordinator system respondents emphasized that greater interaction has led to greater understanding, which has led to greater collaboration.

According to the United States Security Coordinator, Lieutenant General Ward, an improved atmosphere and increased willingness to engage in coordination have characterized the cooperative efforts in recent weeks.

The need for better coordination of this operation at all levels, however, was stressed.

It must be stressed that the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals would be facilitated by greater coherence among the agencies of the United Nations system, improved coordination between the system and national Governments, and assignment of a stronger role to the resident coordinators.

More concerted action was needed.

There is no coordination mechanism there is not even a desire to coordinate the various activities, to say nothing about sharing the most basic information.

As far as coordination is concerned, more effective coordination among the Security Council, the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council remains paramount.

Moreover, there ought to be more coordination between national investment policies and IIA negotiations.

The programme puts UNU in a leading and mediating role of the ACC Subcommittee on Nutrition, and is seeking further collaboration and better coordination in the United Nations system.

14. To improve continuous coordination within the United Nations system, all mine action activities will be organized in consultation with the United Nations Mine Action Service and, as appropriate, with the resident and humanitarian coordinators in the field.

Transparency, proper coordination and accountability are crucial for achieving better and faster results.
