Its overall objectives are (a) to mainstream environmental economic accounting and related statistics (b) to elevate the System of Integrated Environmental and Economic Accounting (SEEA) to an international statistical standard and (c) to advance the implementation of the SEEA in countries.

Design Operational Environment.

At its preliminary meeting, the Committee agreed on its overall objectives, namely (a) to mainstream environmental economic accounting and related statistics (b) to elevate the System of Integrated Environmental and Economic Accounting (SEEA) to an international statistical standard 1 and (c) to advance the implementation of SEEA at the global level.

Furthermore, UNEP is planning a scientific conference on the theme Dryland environmental management and the Millennium Development Goals , expected to be held at UNEP headquarters in Nairobi, in September October 2006.

Following the Conference, a new system of environmental legislation had been created and a Strategy for a National Environmental Policy and a National Environmental Action Plan had been elaborated.
