An amount of 399,600 is proposed for communications links, including telephone, telefax and cable charges, between the Department and the field missions.

The estimate for the military communications network includes spare parts for military pattern radio equipment and telephone cables poles and batteries ( 323,200).

Indicators providing information on the cost of telecommunications include cost per unit (local and international), cost of installation of lines, line rentals, cost for Internet access, etc.

Electricity in the village is provided for free, even to the greenhouses.

The ICT diffusion gap is present not only for household and business telephones and PCs but also for payphones, mobile subscriptions, television sets and fax machines (figure A.4, appendix 2).

The estimate for the civilian communication network includes spare parts for commercial pattern radio and telephone equipment, batteries, control and intercom cables, antenna cables and connectors, tower and mast components, satellite spares, miscellaneous supplies and telephone cables ( 283,500).

(d) Other air operation costs

As concerns the additional requirements under general operating expenses, this is related, inter alia, to the rental of premises, rental and maintenance of data processing equipment and information technology help desk and communications costs with the increased use of videoconferencing services.

(e) Communications costs, including tele and video communications costs between Geneva and New York

Cable and Wireless recently introduced an Internet access facility including worldwide e mail at the rate of 0.10 per minute.

Telecommunications costs had quadrupled over the past few years to the current level of US 4 million annually.

The net decrease in resource requirements in this category results mainly from reductions under communication costs ( 295,100) arising from cost efficiency measures implemented by the Tribunal during the biennium 2004 2005, including streamlining of telephone and telecommunications usage and the introduction of an electronic telephone billing system.

32. The telecommunication revolution had changed ways of doing business, as the exchange of information and services was now instantaneous and low cost.

b Item cost without power supply.

Lower actual cost of generator fuel.

These costs typically include long term accommodation, food and incidentals, such as telephone calls and initial purchases such as heaters, generators or other equipment.

Provision was made under this heading in the amount of 89,100 for electricity and water ( 3,500) and diesel fuel and oil ( 85,600) to be used for generators and water pumps.

Although its cost cannot be justified by the FAO remote sensing telecommunications requirements alone, it may develop into a multi purpose, multi user satellite telecommunications system in future.

Short term loans have had to be taken out in the electricity sector to modernize generating plants and electricity grids, with the aim of improving the quality of service to consumers, because of lack of access to major international credit institutions.

(b) The network could be established through electronic mail, at minimal cost, by establishing its server at a national or international space institution and utilizing existing electronic mail nodes and computer equipment in the region.

Other estimates indicated that the total cost of just closing the telecommunication gap in developing countries would be 3 trillion.

Included in the 41,200 estimated for utilities, an amount of 1,200 would correspond to the office in Tehran and 3,000 would correspond to the estimated cost of utilities for the new offices.

Provision is made in the amount of 6,600 for telephone rental and local telephone charges and of 4,400 for office supplies.

The price for industrial users is higher and household are cross subsidised.

Electricity and generator fuel

6.30 A provision of 131,900 would cover the cost of electronic mail, long distance telephone and facsimile charges and other communications requirements of the Office of Legal Affairs ( 122,000), as well as provide for maintenance of office automation equipment ( 9,900) of the Executive Office.

Provision is made for electricity, water, wood heating fuel and diesel, oil and gas for generators, at the rate of 79,100 per month for the period commencing on 1 July 1998.

The key elements include, inter alia improving access to telecommunications and internet services building trust for users and consumers of electronic commerce establishing ground rules for the digital market place.

Provision is made for the replacement of electronic data processing equipment, since the cost of having it repaired exceeds the cost of replacement.

The estimate also includes a provision for the acquisition of public information equipment for the establishment of production facilities, the transmission of radio programmes and services for the design, production and dissemination of information using various media and spare parts.

In Kenya, for example, an infectious disease team working in an area without power but bolstered by a telecommunications team had been able to treat thousands of children with the help of state of the art information at a fraction of the usual costs.

The estimate for communications, including 28,880,800 for the 2004 05 financial period and 12,959,300 for the period from 1 July to 31 October 2005, covers the acquisition of communications equipment, including VHF, UHF and HF radio equipment, satellite equipment, telephone equipment and other communications and workshop equipment, and commercial communications costs and support services for the establishment of the communications infrastructure and related spare parts.

This amount does not include the administrative cost of providing visas and other services such as telecommunications.
