The south pole of my magnet here is going to be attracted to Earth's magnetic south.

Magnetic north is the geographic location, where the north pole of a magnet will point to.

So if this side of my magnet is attracted to Earth's north pole then Earth's north pole or Earth's magnetic north actually must be the south pole of that magnet.

But with magnetism you always have a dipole.

Magnetism always comes in the form of a dipole.

And the geographic south pole is the north pole of the magnet.

That the north pole is going to be attracted to the south pole of another magnet.

So if this is a magnet, we know that a magnet always has two poles.

What does a dipole mean?

And there's another notion of magnetic north.

So that might be magnetic north.

And that if I were to flip this magnet around, it would actually repel north two north facing magnets would repel each other.

So magnetic north might be here.

And magnetic south, I don't know exactly where that is.

It's been 780,000 years since this happened.

Which is actually the north pole of the magnet we call Earth.

So if the Earth was a big magnet, you would actually view that as a south pole of the magnet.

The major programmes are Antarctic Magnetosphere Ionosphere Ground base Observations (AMIGO), Southern Hemisphere Auroral Radar Experiment (SHARE) and General Magnetospheric Studies and Ozone Studies.

There's diatoms made out of SIO2, and they're magnetotactic bacteria that make small, single domain magnets used for navigation.

And it actually turns out that even one electron is still a magnetic dipole.

But magnetic north is actually roughly in northern Canada.

Scientists wishing to study the interactions of the solar wind with the polar magnetic cusp near the magnetic north pole can use sounding rockets launched from Svalbard.

But in general, when most people refer to magnetic north, or the north pole, they're talking about the geographic north area.

This will offer research groups a unique opportunity to launch rockets both along and across magnetic field lines in the polar cleft.

And this extremely thin layer is able to levitate more than 70,000 times its own weight.

So everything we've seen in nature has been a dipole.

Number five, one of my favorites reversal of the Earth's magnetic field.
