The Committee is also contributing significantly to the International Polar Year's Science and Implementation Plans prepared by ICSU and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

Endorses the intentions and plans of the Scientific Committee for completing its present programme of work of scientific review and assessment on behalf of the General Assembly and for developing a longer term strategic plan for its work, and requests the Committee to submit plans for its future programme of work to the General Assembly at its sixty third session

The Scientific and Technical Subcommittee continued its consideration of this item in accordance with the workplan adopted by the Committee at its forty sixth session.

The policies, actions and criteria whereby CONACyT promotes scientific research and technological development are contained in the National Programme of Science and Technology 2000 2006.

The Committee welcomes the decision by the Board of Education to award scholarships and bursaries to children and the Board's Textbook Assistance Scheme, which provides children, free of cost, with all the textbooks used in school at the primary and secondary levels.

CTEAR conducted studies on the basis of the plan prepared by the subcommission on education with the support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

Topics from the field of basic space science, such as those contained in the reports on the workshops on basic space science, could become subjects for work plans in the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee as well.

OSS will produce for the Committee on Science and Technology a six monthly progress report in accordance with the operational plan appended.

79. The Board trusts that the medium term audit plan for the UNHCR audit section will also be finalized expeditiously.

The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research is an interdisciplinary committee of the International Council for Science (ICSU), established in 1958.

The Joint Scientific and Technical Committee and the Joint Planning Office continue to develop the plans and strategy for the implementation of GCOS.

CARICOM participated in the meetings of the Joint Planning Committee, held in the United States Virgin Islands on 2 and 3 April 1998, to review plans for the implementation of a training workshop on the teaching of science and mathematics at the primary level.

The Committee is concerned that non Kuwaiti workers in Kuwait are excluded from the social insurance scheme.

45. It was encouraging to note that the European Commission, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the World Bank had already undertaken related projects.

The Conference was convened by the Bethlehem 2000 Project, in association with the European Commission, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the World Bank.

The Conference, attended by over 100 participants representing non governmental organizations and scientific institutions, reviewed the activities of the functional committee and resource committees of the Council, as well as their plans for future initiatives.

The Committee further encourages the State party to consider withdrawing the programme of Diligent Work and Economical Study (qingong jianxue) from its school curriculum.

The National Commission, with the active assistance of UNOCI, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other United Nations agencies, has established a planning committee which has produced the necessary plans for implementation of the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration programme to proceed.

According to the workplan, the Subcommittee, at its forty third session, would consider reports on planning activities by the secretariat of the International Heliophysical Year and interested Member States and scientific organizations.

The sScience and ttechnology programme provides substantive support to the Committee on Science and Technology (Committee on Science and Technology (CST)) and its Group of Experts (GoE).

The Scientific and Technical Subcommittee considered this item under the workplan adopted at its fortieth session (A AC.105 804, annex III).
