It is a pleasure and an honour to address the Security Council on behalf of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Pursuant to Security Council's Resolution 1267 the CSTO Secretariat on the basis of national lists compiled a Catalog of terrorist and extremist organizations in the CSTO member states.

B. Size and composition of the Security Council

The OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation was considering updating the document to address changes in the international security environment.

In February 2004, the Department presented the 2003 report of the group of governmental experts on the Register (A 58 274) to the plenary session of the Forum for Security Cooperation of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), held at the OSCE Headquarters in Vienna. A similar presentation was made in March 2004, to the plenary session of the Committee on Hemispheric Security of the Organization of American States (OAS) at the OAS Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Along with the other regional organizations, the OSCE is in a position to provide strong assistance to the Security Council in its central role in preserving international peace and security.
