According to an expert,33 the existing developed markets in finance, labour and capital in the developed economies are more the outcome than the cause of economic development.

The conference had focused on the economic and social situation of those nations and had emphasized that the international community should honour their commitments to them as a matter of urgency.

CAMBRIDGE In the early days of the global financial crisis, there was some optimism that developing countries would avoid the downturn that advanced industrial countries experienced. After all, this time it was not they that had engaged in financial excess, and their economic fundamentals looked strong.

Recalling in particular that the World Conference reaffirmed that least developed countries committed to the process of democratization and economic reforms, many of which are in Africa, should be supported by the international community in order to succeed in their transition to democracy and economic development,

Yes, advanced economies are in a very different position today, but they are hardly immune. Many of the same pundits who never imagined that advanced economies could have massive financial crises are now sure that advanced economies can never have inflation crises.

The world today is experiencing extremely difficult economic conditions which pose a real threat to the process of social and economic development in the developing countries, especially the least developed countries, and pose a major threat to the development of their peoples.

Also, developing countries and the least developed countries faced 48 per cent higher trade weighted average tariffs in the markets of the Quadrilateral Group of Industrialized Economies than in other countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development owing to the composition of their exports in relation to the tariff structure of developed countries.
