The Integrated Framework for Trade Related Technical Assistance to Least Developed Countries (IF) is a multi agency, multi donor programme that helps the least developed countries to expand their participation in the global economy, thereby enhancing their economic growth and poverty reduction strategies.

Staff development will be also strengthened through design and implementation of an integrated competency and performance assessment framework.

The objective would be to propose to the Commission an integrated framework for human resources management that identified the core issues and consisted of a set of guiding principles and policies for the common system.

New funding mechanisms were welcome and would no doubt improve the design of integrated programmes and country service frameworks.

INSTRAW stated that in accordance with its strategic framework of 2004 2007, the research activities in strategic areas include the following comprehensive outputs (a) gender frameworks (b) concept papers and (c) case studies.

In consultation with the other core agencies, donors and the LDCs, UNCTAD is currently developing an IF Manual as a reference informational tool to help all stakeholders to better understand the IF process and thus contribute to its effective implementation and concrete results.

7. A comprehensive framework has been set in place to ensure sustainability and cost effectiveness for the momentum generated at Istanbul.

The Regional Director said that the country had the first and largest integrated United Nations mission, which provided a good framework for cooperation between all agencies.

At the request of the IF Working Group (IFWG), UNCTAD also organized a subregional workshop in Kigali, Rwanda, from 18 to 21 October 2004 with the underlying objective of strengthening LDCs' capacity for ownership of the IF process to ensure national commitment and effective implementation.

Although the region has very substantial amounts of information available, it has not yet been possible to set up integrated frameworks for environmental assessment.

The Subcommittee noted the work carried out by the GeoHazards Theme within the framework of the Integrated Global Observing Strategy.
