Non standard codes

It might be helpful to establish an accepted standard. This standard code should contain more information than the mere serial number of the weapon. It should also be relatively cheap and easy to apply by manufacturers.

The benefits of accurate information through marking are easily lost, however, when tagged weapon parts are replaced by unmarked parts or codes are deleted.
