We are profoundly shocked at the huge toll of damage caused by Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf coast of the United States.

I thank the United Nations and the international community for the generous contributions to the relief effort in the south eastern Gulf States.

Now, let's take a little tour around the Gulf a little bit.

305. The move of the offshore oil and gas industry to deeper waters farther from the coast gave rise to an important delimitation issue between the United States and Mexico with regard to their continental shelves in the Gulf of Mexico.

With a surge height of 7 10 meters, and flooding at some locations extending 20 kilometers inland, Katrina caused catastrophic damage to the Gulf Coast, which has yet to be fully repaired. In 1989, Hurricane Hugo struck near Charleston, South Carolina, with a surge height of nearly four meters.

Seven years earlier, Hurricane Katrina struck the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in the US as a Category 3 storm. With a surge height of 7 10 meters, and flooding at some locations extending 20 kilometers inland, Katrina caused catastrophic damage to the Gulf Coast, which has yet to be fully repaired.

We have followed horrified the terrible damage done by Hurricane Katrina as it crossed the Gulf coast of the United States of America, causing the loss of many lives and harm to property.

With the dramatically increased number of natural disasters in South Asia, the Caribbean and Central America, as well as the United States Gulf Coast, many of our best experts are being drawn away from Africa.

The warm is the Gulf Stream, the cold up there in the Gulf of Maine.

Suriname joins the rest of the international community in expressing its profound sorrow at the tremendous loss of life and property caused by Hurricane Katrina to the Gulf Coast of the United States of America.

They were all on the Gulf in May, while oil was starting to come ashore in certain places.

(d) Wetter than normal conditions are usually observed along the west coast of tropical South America, and at subtropical latitudes of North America (the Gulf Coast) and South America (southern Brazil to central Argentina)

In 2005, the world watched as New Orleans and the Gulf Coast were devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

The other thing about the Gulf that is important is that there are a lot of animals that concentrate in the Gulf at certain parts of the year.

The Gulf of Mexico is a very big ocean.

Let's assume you go to the Caribbean, or you might go to Mexico. You might go to Latin America, Asia, Africa, anywhere in Saudi Arabia.

President Kumaratunga At the outset, I extend our sympathy and solidarity to the people and the Government of the United States of America as they begin reconstruction and rehabilitation, following the recent hurricane disaster on the Gulf Coast.

And this delta water flows to Mobile Bay, and finally into the Gulf of Mexico.

So this is the Gulf of Mexico, sparkling place full of fish.

V. CASE STUDIES A. United States Mexican border area

President Guelleh (spoke in French) At the outset, allow me, on behalf of my Government and the people of Djibouti, to express our profound sympathy and sadness to the Government and people of the United States on the terrible and devastating tragedy and despair resulting from Hurricane Katrina along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

On that subject, I wish to reiterate my country's condolences and solidarity to the people tragically struck by natural disasters, such as those in South East Asia some months ago and, more recently, along the coasts of the Gulf of Mexico in the United States of America.

There's a big river called the Gulf Stream that runs across and it's not going in the direction you are.

I created a little oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

It shortens the lives of the people who live there in the Gulf.

And in the name of connectedness, she said, Oh, it's the Gulf of Mexico.

I think this latest oil spill in the Gulf is a reminder.
