The Council normally meets once a week, and its proceedings are confidential, although many of its decisions are made public.

The Executive Director also participates fully in the work of the Administrative Committee on Coordination (ACC).

In addition, holding a meeting of the Executive Committee before a Meeting of the Parties raises problems with regard to overlap with the Implementation Committee meeting.

Regular briefings of the Council by the Executive Secretaries should be organized during the meetings of the Executive Committee on Economic and Social Affairs and the United Nations Development Group.

The Commission meets biennially, normally at its headquarters.

Arrangements have been made for parallel meetings during the session.

During the period under review, the Committee held 10 meetings the 180th, on 9 January 1997 the 181st, on 10 March 1997 the 182nd, on 27 March 1997 the 183rd, on 31 March 1997 the 184th, on 1 April 1997 the 185th, on 10 April 1997 the 186th, on 2 July 1997 the 187th, on 15 October 1997 the 188th, on 5 November 1997 and the 189th, on 13 November 1997.

Opportunities to eliminate the need to travel by utilizing videoconferencing for such purposes as recruitment, inter office consultations, competitive exams, meetings and conferences will be explored.

At its organizational session held in May 1998, the Preparatory Committee for the Special Session held two panel discussions on the implementation of the outcome of the Summit.

At the August session, the Committee will meet up to seven days in parallel working groups.
