The Board had also noted the comments made by the members of the Committee and by the Advisory Committee regarding the rate of implementation and impact of its recommendations.

The Chemical Review Committee drafting group incorporates, as appropriate, comments from the members of the Chemical Review Committee and takes note of the comments made by observers of the Chemical Review Committee on the internal proposal and prepares a draft decision guidance document.

In decision 1 COP.5, the COP recommended the establishment of a Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC).

Consideration of the report of the Committee on its third session

The secretariat of the Committee, located in Vienna, organizes and services its annual sessions and manages the preparation of assessments requested by the Committee for its scientific scrutiny.

The Chairman of the Audit Operations Committee of the Board of Auditors introduced the report of the Board (A 60 5 (Vol. V)).

CRIC 1 took place approximately 10 months before the following session of the Committee.

The Commission encourages the Government to further strengthen and improve CIAT, especially by reviewing the risk evaluation mechanisms it has adopted.

The Advisory Committee had made pertinent comments which would guide the Committee's evaluation.

Urgent action is now required to establish the Assessment and Evaluation Commission, whose mandate and composition are currently being reviewed by the Presidency.

It was agreed that this should be discussed by each committee and, taking into account their comments, considered at the fifth inter committee meeting.

Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee

The Board was willing to examine whether the remedial action for UNOPS was sufficient, as the European Union had suggested (A C.5 59 SR.10), provided such an assessment did not affect the Board's independence or exceed its mandate, and provided it respected the responsibilities of the Board, the Advisory Committee and the Administration.

In preparation for CRIC 1, the secretariat convened four regional meetings, which provided their inputs to the Committee.
