For many countries, some of the data are based on treatment admissions some countries have national registries of people undergoing treatment for drug abuse.

The Special Rapporteur asked to be informed whether or not this investigation had been concluded and or any progress had been made with the inquiries.

The remaining sections of the biennial reports questionnaire and the analysis of the answers will provide more information and a better understanding of where countries stand in relation to achieving measurable and significant results in drug demand reduction.

All of this is happening against the backdrop of increasing experimentation with drugs.

There is some evidence that the most effective media campaigns are those which engage players outside the scope of state institutions, for instance, those which work with the entertainment industry to develop and implement voluntary codes of conduct related to depiction of substance abuse.

More resources need to be devoted to interventions focusing on special needs.
