For several decades, that tendency has been offset by ever more intensive trading of tradable goods, often passing through many countries in complex supply chains. In the future, however, the shift to non tradable consumption may dominate.

Identification of labour intensive products that can participate in intra industry trade is critical, and analyses of value chain potentials are equally important.

However, the escalation of trade frictions in summer and the disturbance of natural disasters on supply chains had casted a shadow over the prospects of Japanese economy which depended on exports.

Of course we also, particularly in the last decade, managed to envelop the world in a dense chain of supermarkets, in a chain of global trade.

To seize this opportunity, the five regional commissions are implementing a project entitled Interregional partnership for promoting trade as an engine of growth aimed at strengthening the negotiating capacity of developing countries on trade facilitation, designing trade facilitation policies, and the application of information and communication technologies (ICT) in supply chain management.

What is true for countries on the tradable side is also true for workers, who are differentially affected by the evolution of global supply chains. Adjustment, support to trade and trade related shocks

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) continued to nurture the rapid growth of South South trade and commerce.

Accelerating the pace of South South cooperation led industrialization and trade for poverty reduction hinges largely on determined efforts to address the above issues within the framework of a common agenda to use manufacturing, value chain and trade as dynamic forces of poverty reduction.
