Three tunas tagged.

The tuna team from TOPP has done the unthinkable three teams tagged 1,700 tunas, bluefin, yellowfin and albacore all at the same time carefully rehearsed tagging programs in which we go out, pick up juvenile tunas, put in the tags that actually have the sensors, stick out the tuna and then let them go.

The varieties landed are tuna, bonito, mackerel, squid, shark, lobster and shrimp.

We bring the tuna out, we measure it.

That is where the tuna spawn.

Most of the turtles, sharks, tunas and whales are way down in numbers.

Sole, snoek and tuna occur on the continental shelf along the coastline.

And if it's tunas you don't care about, perhaps you might be interested that international long lines and pursing chase down tunas and bycatch animals such as leatherbacks, sharks, marlin, albatross.

These tuna swim the entire ocean.

And every single day these tuna, bluefin like this, are stacked up like cordwood, just warehouse after warehouse.

Bluefin are pursued wherever they go there is a gold rush on Earth, and this is a gold rush for bluefin.

We've actually tagged 1,100 tunas.

Living amongst our tunas our North American tunas are European tunas that go back to the Med.

So we can save the bluefin tuna.

Earlier this year, the U.S. warned that albacore and bigeye tuna, also caught with longlines, are being overfished in the Pacific.

Its economy depends on the tuna fish canning industry.

We've actually taken a sliver of the ocean, put it behind glass, and we together have put bluefin tuna and yellowfin tuna on display.

This tuna symbolizes what's the problem for all of us in the room.

Now, I've been working with tunas for over 15 years.

This tuna is actually moving on a numerical ocean.

That's the size they have to be to protect the bluefin tuna.

They're the largest of the tunas, the second largest fish in the sea bony fish.

There is especially high demand in foreign markets for tuna, shark, lobster and shrimp.

Recent studies have documented the rapid decline of large predatory fish species such as billfish, sharks and tuna.

The advisory also included a caveat that women should eat no more than 12 ounces of light tuna a week and no more than six ounces a week of white tuna.

So the key now is to make it behave like tuna.

Bluefin are warmblooded like us.

Bluefin have two populations one large, one small.

There was tuna salad sandwiches and egg salad sandwiches and salmon salad sandwiches.

Much of the fish is tuna transhipped from the South Pacific region on its way to the U.S. market.

Thailand has become the main canned tuna producer in the world although it has no domestic tuna production and imports all the raw materials.

And this also actually happens with tuna and scallops.

Bluefin are in cave paintings in France.

Now bluefin, in general, goes to one place Japan.

For example, the longline fleet in the Indo Pacific is flooding Japan with low grade tuna, causing prices to decrease while continuing to take relatively large numbers of tuna from the ocean.

As awareness grows, levels of consumption of large predatory fish such as tuna and swordfish are dropping.

To that end and despite the fact that the export of tuna constitutes about 94 per cent of all export earnings of fish, Fiji has reduced the number of tuna fishing licenses issued annually from 103 in 2002 to 72 in 2005.

Tuna and swordfish fisheries are especially petroleum hungry, with energy consumption three times the average.

The case involved the apprehension of the tuna vessel Connie Jean off the coast of Peru with 100 tonnes of tuna on board.

Of the 32 demersal, pelagic and shellfish fisheries studied, the Central Pacific swordfish tuna longline fishery had the fourth highest fuel use intensity (liters of fuel per ton of catch), and the tuna billfish longline fishery had the highest exceeding even that of shrimp trawling, the second highest.
