Coordinating Mechanism The Global Mechanism of the Convention to Combat Desertification The Global Mechanism (GM) is a coordinating (resource mobilization) mechanism established under the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in Those Countries Experiencing Serious Drought and or Desertification, Particularly in Africa (UNCCD or Desertification Convention).

Cooperation with Annex IV of the UNCCD has also yielded results in this respect, such as the introduction of an information system on desertification control in countries bordering on the Mediterranean and the Network for Research to Combat Desertification (DESERTNET) project, aimed at setting up a Mediterranean network on desertification monitoring.
