A. Space based technology solutions for disaster management

Through the programme management cycle initiative, the Agency will fully develop results based management in relation to both programmes and projects.

This proposed enabling project on land degradation relates to the GEF's Operational programme OP 15 Sustainable Land Management.

Some delegations stated that it would be better to defer consideration of the item so that the administering Powers could cooperate with the Special Committee.

A number of regional programmes are being undertaken that address waste management, including the drafting of a regional waste management strategy and work programme, and community based waste management projects as part of the International Waters Programme.

This is one of the major projects in the 2005 2007 work programme.

The International Competition Network has embarked on an ambitious programme to address the challenges to anti cartel enforcement posed by international and domestic cartels.

Most audit recommendations were aimed at improving programme and project management, financial management and information and communications technology systems.

This is a problem that is currently lacking a solution.

To develop public policies that strengthen and stimulate the network initiatives, regulating and supporting the management of programs and projects.

The proposal also makes provision to begin the learning management system and knowledge management and electronic archiving projects, for which additional funding will be sought from other resources.

I believe it is also very important that we resolve these differences between old and new items, between packages and non packages.

IOMC could provide basic project summary information.

(b) Large, complex project administration (e.g., the Nile River Basin Initiative and other water resource management programmes) where UNOPS assumption of administrative and financial management, human resource administration and procurement services enables clients to focus on achievement of operational goals

The services that UNOPS provides are (a) programme support and complex project management (b) loan administration and project supervision and (c) procurement of goods and services, including human resources administrative and advisory services.

The current project cycle management review process aims at ensuring a shared understanding of all aspects of the project cycle, as well as creating a link between the organizational mandates, priorities and policies. The review consists of four phases

The Programme Coordination and Management Unit coordinates the planning and programming process, facilitates the project design and approval process, and monitors and reports on programme performance.

212. The United Nations Office for Project Services provides implementation and management services to projects funded by United Nations organizations and programmes.

UNDP will use this material to prepare a Programme Advisory Note to assist programme staff in developing viable coastal management projects.

The Chairman suggested that the Committee should adopt the following draft decision, which had been prepared in response to the misinterpretation by the Office of Human Resources Management of a previous Assembly resolution on human resources management

Project Management

The programme management cycle initiative will involve strengthening the programme and project management capacity at both headquarters and the field offices in a comprehensive way, both by establishing support functions and by training and retasking existing staff.

13. UNHCR should ensure that PMRs are received on time and used for project monitoring purposes by all programme managers.

The resource committee on early warning systems, conflict avoidance and dispute resolution submitted a project proposal on conflict resolution, technical assistance and training, which was designed to increase or create capacities in those areas and to sponsor innovative action programmes using dispute resolution techniques, such as community policing.
