Opening ceremony

In response to decision 21 CP.7 and a request from the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) at its twentieth session, this note contains a proposal for technical guidance on methodologies for adjustment under Article 5, paragraph 2, of the Kyoto Protocol that includes guidance on adjustments for estimates of anthropogenic emissions and removals from land use, land use change and forestry.

Croatia aligned itself with this statement.

Satyarthi s Global March Against Child Labor has rescued thousands of boys and girls, as young as eight, working as slave laborers in India s back streets and sweatshops. The organization has inspired a worldwide campaign to lift children out of exploitation and into education.

Under Xi s leadership, China is attempting to reshape its relationships with Arab countries according to its new march west strategic framework. The most notable component of this strategy is the Silk Road economic belt, which is to run along the ancient Central Asian Silk Road and the modern maritime Silk Road an initiative that Xi promoted heavily at the recent meeting in Beijing.

But what is of greater long term significance is that girls themselves are demanding that their rights be taken seriously. Girls have mobilized in Bangladesh, where the movement to establish child marriage free zones is growing in India, where the Global March Against Child Labor started and in Africa, where child protection clubs are being formed in almost every country.

Now, the Global March Against Child Labor and A World at School have come together to support the UpForSchool petition, which links the universal provision of education to ending child exploitation. Over the next several months, youth groups in 190 countries will be collecting, it is hoped, a record number of signatures.
