It would be recalled from the report of the Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on the right to food (A 59 385) that 842 million people suffered from undernourishment and that one child died every five seconds from hunger related diseases, but the most shocking fact was that hunger was increasing.

As SOFI 2013 points out, progress toward eradicating hunger and undernourishment has slowed since 2000, when food prices began to rise, following almost a half century of decline.
