Another feature of distribution services in developing countries is the prevalence of non structured distribution activities, which provide for an even higher level of employment and serve as a refuge for people in the lowest income groups.

The distribution of students of general education day schools by level of education and of students of higher education institutions is given in Table 4.

Most manufacturers distribute their own products, using their own facilities and in house resources, instead of the proper distribution and retailing channels, with a resulting low level of efficiency and a low level of specialization.

Regulations are necessary in order to ensure a well functioning distribution market, establish a level playing field and protect consumers.

The full effects of the reform in distribution services and the expansion of trade and investment, however, are yet to be fully understood at a country level.

The GATS covers distribution services, defining them primarily as distribution of goods.

Positive measures at the policy level need to be put in place to translate these potential benefits into capacity building for domestic providers of distribution services.
