The Common Data Set (CDS) on total merchandise exports and imports by country, developed through a joint data ownership with shared responsibilities, was launched in 2001.

In this method, large data sets are used to estimate parameters that describe the basic forces which determine the magnitude of bilateral merchandise trade (imports and exports).
