32. In April 1998, Uganda became the first country to reach its completion point.

It is expected that Burundi will reach its decision point and that Chad, Rwanda and Zambia will reach their completion points in 2005.

All efforts are being made to enable it to reach the completion point within one year.

The plan will initially apply to the 18 HIPC completion point countries and will be extended to additional countries as they reach the completion point under the HIPC Initiative.
