The Juba Valley Alliance currently controls the Kismaayo seaport and derives revenue of approximately 500,000 per month from the port operations.

At Laem Chabang Seaport, PAT is in charge of port development and provision of common services, while private operators oversee terminal operations.

Charcoal accounts for 99.7 per cent of the export taxes collected at Kismaayo seaport, while scrap metal accounts for the remaining 0.3 per cent.

But more complicated issues, such as the release of Palestinian prisoners and the establishment of a Gaza airport and seaport, will be left for next month s discussions.

To provide effective support to the Eastern brigades, the Mission will establish a regional logistics base for eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo in Entebbe, Uganda, which has one of the largest airports in Africa and is accessible overland from a large capacity Indian Ocean seaport in Dar es Salaam.

A vision of a very different Palestine, and of the Israel beside it, is not hard to find. When Israel withdrew from Gaza the former head of the World Bank, James Wolfensohn, negotiated a six point plan on behalf of the Quartet for the Middle East (Russia, the United States, the European Union and the United Nations). It included opening crossings between Gaza and the West Bank, an airport and seaport in Gaza, opening the border with Egypt, and transferring the greenhouses abandoned by Israeli settlers into Arab hands.

The Team invited Committee experts to participate in meetings on various issues of common interest, including a round table discussion with top officials of the United States Department of the Treasury, a discussion with visiting scientists conducting a study on counter financing of terrorism measures for the Government of Norway, and a visit to a New York New Jersey seaport to observe recent United States customs and border patrol initiatives.

7. Emphasizes the need for the parties, with the help of the international community, speedily and fully to resolve all remaining issues in the Gaza Strip, including a durable arrangement for the border crossings, the airport, the construction of the seaport, the removal of the rubble and the establishment of a permanent physical link between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and welcomes the positive role being played in this regard by the Quartet Special Envoy for Disengagement
