39. Of the three forms of private capital flow (loans, FDI and portfolio equity), FDI and portfolio equity investments are more relevant in the present context of African economies.

The idea is that a professional manager who chooses assets and markets in which to invest can outperform the average return of buying the whole market. These funds are supposed to get you alpha absolute superior returns, rather than the market beta.

15. ESCAP is also seeking cooperation with ECO in the implementation of a project on investment promotion for the mining industry in the ECO countries.

Three major topics were discussed, namely, cooperation, trade and investment.

The Expert Meeting welcomed the panel discussion with international investors.

An expert stated that Republic of Korea SMEs account for a significant percentage of OFDI by Korean firms. Most of their investments are in neighbouring countries.

Since the Fund invests in small capitalization equities in the United States, Europe and Japan, in house management would require a significant number of portfolio managers and analysts dedicated to research.

The representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) described the organization's contribution as linking FDI to strengthening the innovative capacity of a country's domestic enterprises as well channelling FDI to appropriate sub sectors.

It created a new website dedicated to FDI and TNC statistics (www.unctad.org fdistatistics), a site of comprehensive and integrated data sets on FDI and operations of TNCs, drawn from UNCTAD's database on FDI and TNCs.
