Provisional Programme of Work

In order to ensure a safe working environment for a female worker, the employer may temporarily facilitate the working conditions, change the organisation of work (including the shortening of the working day and enabling of suitable breaks) or temporarily transfer the female worker to daytime or evening job.

The Working Group noted that the question of interim representatives had already been raised in connection with a number of other provisions and that the drafting group had been requested to draft a separate set of provisions dealing with the status of interim representatives for later consideration by the Working Group.

The Committee was informed that provisions for general temporary assistance are included in the regular budget with the purpose of covering the costs relating to peak workload and the temporary replacement of staff on maternity and sick leave under the provisions of the Staff Rules.

General temporary assistance

After consideration of the views expressed, it was agreed that detailed provisions on provisional relief, including provisional relief sought by interim representatives did not belong in article 6 and should be dealt with in the context of article 12.

The additional resources of 2.5 million under general temporary assistance relate to the temporary recruitment of 17 additional international staff and 30 national personnel.

3. Provision of 160,000 for general temporary assistance had been made to cover periods of peak workload and for temporary replacement of staff on maternity leave or sick leave.

Provision is made for the hiring of temporary staff to replace locally recruited staff on maternity and extended sick leave.
