A national plan is now being started to strengthen safe maternity services, including skilled care during delivery and emergency obstetric care (EmOC).

In pre and post natal care, obstetrician gynaecologists and paediatricians provide recommendations on sound nutrition and the intake of vitamins and other micronutrients.

291. The data from ENDESA 96 also show broad coverage of care at the time of childbirth. 39 received care from a doctor, 52 from an obstetrician gynecologist, and 4 from nurses.

They are the general guidelines for the organization and standardization of emergency obstetric care (2000), the protocol for obstetric and paediatric care (2001) and the abortion care protocol (2002).

In February 2004, a National Seminar on Obstetric and Neonatal care was held to establish the Pact's strategic actions.

Apart from these measures, the Government has encouraged the establishment of Mother Friendly Hospitals and Mother Friendly Sub Districts that provide appropriate obstetric emergency care and monitor pregnant women for early detection of obstetric complications, referrals and emergency preparedness.

Ante natal care ante natal care services are provided at almost all the health facilities in the country.

Of this figure, 78 met with a nurse or midwife and 13 saw a doctor for antenatal care.

With respect to human resources and infrastructure, Panama has 30 hospitals and 26 health centres with maternity wards. 424. The protection of the moral and material interests resulting from any scientific production includes the measures taken to protect literary and artistic property, including by means of the patents and standards system.

The National Post abortion Care Programme is aimed directly at reducing maternal mortality. It has been in operation since 2004 in 22 of the country's hospitals, where a total of 13,928 women with incomplete abortions have been attended.
