Medical care includes general practitioner care, specialist care in hospitals, essential pharmaceutical supplies, hospitalization where necessary including in cases of pregnancy and confinement and pre natal and post natal care.

A national plan is now being started to strengthen safe maternity services, including skilled care during delivery and emergency obstetric care (EmOC).

In the health sector, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) supported the improvement of emergency obstetric care in district hospitals.

In pre and post natal care, obstetrician gynaecologists and paediatricians provide recommendations on sound nutrition and the intake of vitamins and other micronutrients.

This article indicates that care shall be provided for the mother before, during and after childbirth.
