Trade in health services under this mode includes primarily health services provided to foreign patients however, educational services provided to foreign students can also be considered trade in health services.

Services and facilities at health units

The possibilities to control maternal health are found in the health care units at different levels of coverage.

In the district health centres, public health nurses provide primary care and doctors visit on a regular basis to provide medical care.

The services were provided through the Agency apos s network of 121 primary health care facilities including 88 health centres, 23 health points offering a wide range of health care services on a part time basis, and 10 mother and child health centres offering comprehensive family health services supported by basic services such as X ray and laboratory facilities (see annex I, table 8).

UNRWA health care services for Palestine refugees in Jordan were delivered through 13 health centres, four health points and six mother and child health centres, all of which provided family planning services. Of those facilities, 21 contained laboratories, 17 provided special care for non communicable diseases, 17 provided dental care and 1 operated radiology and physiotherapy units.

Dental care was offered at 17 facilities, in addition to three mobile dental units that provided school and community oral health care.

These centres and clinics provide primary health care services, such as treatment to combat contagious diseases and treatment for citizens who are eligible to benefit from their services, the aim being to improve public health by providing vaccination and preventive health services, maternal care, childcare and school health services.

A second medical team was established in the Jericho area to provide full time service at the Aqabat Jabr health centre, four days a week at the Ein Sultan health point, and two days a week at the Auja health point.

With headquarters in Abuja and the participation of Algeria, Botswana, Cuba, the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Nigeria and South Africa, it provides health care services to countries on request.

UNICEF also restarted health services in 27 health centres and facilitated access to basic health care for 100,000 internally displaced persons.

Outreach to bring services to people and empowerment of people to raise awareness of the need to use services and of the right to demand good services is as important.

Construction was completed on a new health centre in Yarmouk camp providing general clinic services, mother and child health care and family planning services, and dental care and laboratory services.

The Agency also operated one health point and three MCH centres, which provided a full range of family health services.

Nineteen of those facilities accommodated laboratories and 12 offered dental care services supported by school oral health services provided through a mobile dental unit.

This service is mostly provided in all hospitals and health centres.

In Jordan, four main sectors are responsible for the provision of health services, namely

Health care service has a special place and plays a special role in the system of health care protection, providing health care services of standard quality and equal substance to citizens.

Comprehensive primary health care services were delivered to Palestine refugees in the West Bank through the Agency apos s network of 22 health centres and 12 health points, all of which offered family planning services and special care for management of diabetes mellitus and hypertension, in addition to the full range of preventive and curative medical care services.

These workers provide services in child health, nutrition, family planning and treatment of minor ailments.

In terms of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), health services include medical and dental services services provided by midwives, nurses, physiotherapists and para medical personnel hospital services and other human health services.

Provision of goods and services

The project will lead to comprehensive policy recommendations on developing a continuum of care within the primary health care sector aiming towards integrated old age care.

Of those facilities, 21 accommodated laboratories and 19 provided dental care, supported by a mobile dental unit for community oral health services.

It is also here where there is more supply and demand of health care services.

Pharmaceutical services provide the medications that are needed for preventive care or treatment.

In other words, there are 59.2 persons providing health care and services per 10,000 citizens.

Health services in private health institutions are paid in full on a commercial basis.
