178. With a view to improving the nutritional status of the population, a draft has been prepared on the establishment of a National Monitoring System of Nutrition and the Nutritional Status of the Population in Bulgaria.

In addition, the Government has developed a consensus policy on food and nutritional security, the objectives of which are (a) to break the intergenerational circle of chronic malnutrition in the country (b) to expand the availability of basic foodstuffs (c) to improve the organic value of foods and (d) to assess and monitor the food and nutrition security situation in the country.
